Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my child is sick, do i need to contact you?
If your child is going to miss class, please email us at
so we can let your teacher know of your absence.
We are going away on holiday, what do we do?
We hope you have a wonderful time away however please note that we are unable to offer a refund on any missed classes. Even when you are away we are keeping the space open for your child.
Do we need to purchase uniform?
At The Ballet Dance Company uniform is not compulsory. However if you wish to purchase any of our uniform you can place an order at reception. Your little Ballerina may choose to wear their favourite dance outfit, this may be a fairy dress, tutu or super hero costume! Just make sure all clothing is free to move in and dresses/skirts are no longer than the knee to avoid tripping. Ballet shoes are preferred (bare feet are acceptable for trial lessons). No socks or jiffies are allowed as they are too slippery.
How does payment work?
All payment is due in advance for the school term in order to secure your child's place in the class. Please speak to reception for alternative payment methods available if you would like to go on a direct debiting payment system.
Can parents/guardians watch class?
Our Ballet (18 months – 3yrs) class requires a parent or guardian to participate. Don’t worry Parents and Guardians, there is no dance experience required and I can assure you, you will have as much fun as your little one! Our Ballet (3yrs – 6yrs) parents/guardians are welcome to watch, however to avoid distractions we do ask parents, guardians & siblings to sit quietly during lessons to avoid our little ballerinas from being distracted.
Do our Ballerina's have the opportunity to perform on stage?
Yes, there will be an end of year performance towards the end of December for our Ballerinas. This is a relaxed performance day with no pressure, and no huge expenses for our little ones to show their family and loved ones what they have learnt throughout the year. All Ballet students will receive a certificate and trophy on the day of their performance or
final lesson of the year.
It seems a little repetitive is that boring for them?
Not at all. Children actually love the repetitiveness as they learn the exercises, look forward to their favourites and work on perfecting the skills that challenge them. Both you and the child will able to see the progress over the weeks and be proud of accomplishments. Ballet is an art form and a sport, although at a younger age it is important to keep it fun and enjoyable, it is important to work on the basic foundations and technique so they are able to build on them as they get older and more advanced. And even then they will still be doing Plies, even when they get a Soloist career with the ACB.
Why are classes only 30 minutes long?
Our Ballet classes are fully structured from the warm up to the curtsy. There is no 'free play' or 'go and explore' time during class. 30 minutes is a long time for full concentration for children aged 6 years and younger. Your child will learn more in our 30 minute classes than most other 45-60min classes.
What costs are involved?
Our classes are capped at $16.00 per class.
This includes 1x30 minute Tuition + 1x15 minute Ballerina Club session per week.
A $20.00 Levy per term is included in your enrollment. This covers administration fees, insurance, music license, props & daily sanitation of studio and equipment.
A $100.00 performance fee is due by the end of term 3. This covers the cost of costume hire, rehearsal, certificate, trophy & a copy of your performance on DVD.
What is the Ballerina club?
The Ballerina club is a fun 15 minute story time with your teacher & ballerina friends.
You are welcome to bring fresh fruit and snacks to enjoy during story time. (However due to allergies we do not recommend sharing food and snacks with your ballerina friends).
From time to time we will change story time to arts and crafts!
